"Clay,
I think your leather carving abilities have really blossomed. They've grown to the point where you are beginning to develop your own style, which is one of the marks of a true craftsman. As you know, I've taught a lot of classes and workshops on leather carving over the years and I have often had students that have taken classes with me more than once. I have sometimes been disappointed to see that they have not progressed any since the last class. That is not the case with you. Every time I have had the chance to see your latest work, I've been able to see improvement. This has as much to do with personal desire as it does ability.
Good luck with your web page."

My Story
I grew up in a Western family.  My mother is an artist and my dad is a racehorse trainer.  We always had horses.I followed in my fathers footsteps and became a racehorse trainer.  With out realizing it I also became a leather worker.  Any time a piece of tack broke or wore out I just fixed it myself.  It was easier than finding a saddle shop.  When I was 25 I was injured by a kick from a horse and decided to take a break from the race track and spend time with my family.  I had been making chaps for a couple of years as a side job and had started a friendship with Patrick Knapp the manager of the Albuquerque Leather Factory.  Soon I started working for him as a manager trainee.  This is when I got my introduction to leather carving.  At this same time I joined the New Mexico Roadrunner Leather Artisans Guild.  I met two men who would become both my mentors and close friends.  Paul Brinegar and Billy Wootres.  The two of them taught me everything that I know about leather carving.   I was promoted to manager of Tandy Leather Co. store #110.  I was there for nearly two years when I decided to try my own leather shop.  I have since moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where I have opened a workshop in my home.

Well, as they say, things always change and I am happy to anounce that I am back working for Tandy Leather Factory.  I have recently opened a new Tandy Leather Factory store in beautiful Rapid City, South Dakota.  It is going to be a great adventure and my family and I are really going to enjoy it.   Because of this I am going to slow down on the custom leather business.  If you really want me to make something I will happily give you a quote.
